Tuscany | another lunch

The lunch on our second day of the educational study tour of Tuscany was just as huge and fantastic as the lunch we had the previous day. This time we enjoyed local dishes at Ristorante Adriano Di Nencini Fabio in Cerreto Guidi. After that we got a guided tour of the Polli factory, and then we drove a lot (again) to have a guided tour and dinner at Castello di Volpaia.

Tuscany | Campochiarenti

The first visit of day 2 of our educational study tour in Tuscany was Campochiarenti winery near San Gimignano, about halfway between Florence and Siena. After that we visited Streda Belvedere winery and holiday apartments.

Tuscany | Svoltaccarozze, on film

After that fantastic lunch we drove to Svoltaccarozze, a winery, restaurant, bed and breakfast in Murlo, 20 km south of Siena. Svoltaccarozze is a lovely family run place, where they among other things grow a lot of their own vegetables for use in the restaurant kitchen.

Tuscany | lunch

After the visit at Basile we drove to the little village of Civitella Marittima and had a fantastic (huge) lunch at the charming Locanda nel Cassero restaurant. I would love to go back here!

Rivolta del Cassero; deep fried pancake with bacon and farm cheese - a typical dish for this village.

Pici bugiardo; another typical dish of the area. Pici is the name of the pasta. Bugiardo means "liar"; the sauce tastes like chicken, but there is no chicken in it. All families have their own version of the sauce, often based on other types of meat.

Fennel roasted Cinta Senese (a special breed of wild pigs) with roasted potatoes and mashed fennel (I think).

Semifreddo with pavisini biscuits soaked in coffee and mascarpone cheese on top. And of course a cup of espresso (with sugar for me) at the end.

Tuscany | Basile

The first visit of our educational study tour of Tuscany was the rice producer Serrata Lunga. Then we drove to Basile, an organic winery run by a former lawyer from Naples. Basile is located in a beautiful Tuscan landscape in Maremma, in the Municipality of Cinigiano, about one hour drive from Grosseto.

Tuscany | food & wine

I have finally sorted through all the photos (digital and film) from my recent trip to Tuscany, Italy. The trip was made on behalf of the Italian Trade Commission as part of their educational study tour program for Italian Flavours and Culture. If you are interested you can read more about the project here. We were four food/wine/travel writers (one of them writes a lovely food blog
(in Danish) that I recommend; Miras Matblog) from the Nordic countries that got to visit wineries, food producers, local restaurants and people working with tourism. As mentioned before it was four wonderful yet busy days.

You know I'm an organized girl, so click the tag "Tuscany June 2011" to view all these Tuscany posts + see all the photos, including photos not posted here, in the Italy: Tuscany set on Flickr.
