News - 2010 Honda Insight Crash Test Results, IIHS

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS, has just rated 3 new 2010 models for crash safety, including the new Honda Insight hybrid and initial results are all good. The Kia Soul, 2010 Toyota Prius were also tested. All 3 models received the Institute's Top Safety Pick Award. The criteria for that award: cars must offer Good protection to front occupants in front, side, and rear collisions, as well as offering electronic stability control (ESC). The Insight has standard curtain and torso airbags but however on the LX model, stability control is not offered and that poses a problem. In Consumer Reports' own extensive testing, the Insight proved to be sightly problematic in emergency situations, even with stability control, and imagine what it would be like without the stability control on the LX model. Best advice if you're buying an Insight? Get the EX with stability control.
