Looking Back - The Honda Avancier
The Honda Avancier was a 5-seat CUV that was sold exclusively in Japan between 1999 and 2003. It was based on the Honda Accord platform and it had a tall height, making it much more spacious than both the Accord sedan and Accord wagon models. One speciality about the Avancier is that it allowed passengers to walk between the front and rear seats and the center seat contained a hidden table. The Avancier was available with a 2.3L 4 cylinder engline or a 3.0L V6, both only available with automatic transmissions. Honda's current CMBS system in the Acura RL/Honda Legend first made its debut in the Avancier. It was called the Intelligent Highway Cruise Control system, which used a radar to determine and maintain distance with the car in front. It was an option on the V6. The 4-cylinder could be had with AWD. Honda ceased production of the Avancier in late 2003 due to declining sales, something similar to what it has done with the FR-V/Edix in August 2009.
