Sales of the Honda CR-V in Malaysia has now exceeded its sales targets for the Malaysian market. It has now sold 3,900 units so far and another almost 1,000 units on order.
Honda Malaysia had targeted to sell 3,600 units in the first year of its launch. Since its launch in March up to August, the CR-V has 47.3% of the market share in the non-national SUV segment compared with 13.7% a year ago.
Managing director and chief executive officer Atsushi Fujimoto said the response from Malaysians was overwhelming as its target was to sell 3,600 units within the first year of launch "but despite the current industry situation, response to the new CR-V was beyond our expectations".
Global cumulative sales of the CR-V from 1995 when it launched the first generation model stood at over 2.76 million units as at May this year, it said.
In the US, the CR-V has continued its lead as America's Best Selling SUV while in Canada, the CR-V is in one of the top 10 selling light trucks list.
