JAPAN EARTHQUAKE FALLOUT: Honda Suspending Activity

Honda's Tochigi Factory prior to the March 12th earthquake
Honda is suspending all work at four of its five plants in Japan on Monday after the devastating Japan earthquake that hit earlier yesterday. The earthquake + tsunami damaged parts of Northern and Eastern parts of Japan, where some of Honda's plants lie. Honda will be suspending operations at Tochigi, Sayama, Hamamatsu and Suzuka. Its motorcycle plant in Kumamoto, which has been left untouched by the earthquake will continue operations. Honda has not said how long the suspension will last. Funeral arrangements will be offered for the one member of the Tochigi Factory that died on Friday after a wall collapsed in the cafeteria. Auto shipments from factories in Japan will be delayed indefinitely. Honda's auto plants in the States and Canada are not facing any fallout from this temporary suspension and turn of events in Japan. However, consumers that have bought a vehicle that comes from Japan, primarily the Honda Fit, Honda Insight and Honda Civic Hybrid will face delays. Output and exports have been halted as well. More to come...
