everyday stories outtakes

Everyday stories outtakes from week 14 in April. I'm collecting the outtakes in the my everyday life 2011 set on Flickr.

Winter is here...

I know all you lovelies from the Northern hemisphere are happy to be welcoming Summer but here in Australia, I'm really happy to light up the fire and enjoy the cosiness of a good night in with the beautiful cold Winter nights!

Just thought I would share some fireplace inspiration from one of my favourite designers John Jacob!

And I'm just going to share this pic of my backyard yesterday in the middle of a hail storm - my boys were very excited!  This cooled everything down nicely!  Happy winter everyone in the Southern hemisphere!  T xx

Honda Hiring Spree

After opening in southeastern Indiana three years ago, the economy came to a grinding halt. That caused many American car manufactures to lay off thousands of workers. The only thing it caused Honda in Greensburg, Ind. to do is wait.
"If you look at the auto industry over the past couple years, it's starting to take an up-tick," spokesperson Anita Sipes. "We see that as a good sign."
So good, the company got the green light recently to start accepting applications to hire 1 000 employees to begin working a second shift. The goal is to get employees rolling by the end of this year from a 20 county area surrounding the plant.
"Obviously that touches the Cincinnati area. We are accepting applications online through our website. Right now we're just looking to see some great applicants come in and add to our already great workforce that we have here."
The starting salary for the jobs being offered ranges from $15 per hour and can go up to $18 per hour after two years of service.

Learning Something New . . . Works for Me Wednesday

I did not make this cake:

You see, decorating cakes is not my forte.  Exhibit A and B.

But, you're never too old to learn, right? RIGHT?!?

Have you heard of MyCakeSchool.com?  It is a beautiful site filled with videos and tutorials all about making gorgeous cakes.

Melissa, the owner of My Cake School, is a natural teacher. Watching her videos makes me think, "Hey, I can DO that!"  It's like having a personal instructor right in your very own kitchen.  (Even though, I think I'd trade my kitchen for hers.)

For $30 a year, members have access to 100's of videos (don't take my word for it; here's a list).  Learn everything from a basic crumb coat to gumpaste to buttercream flowers.

The video on scrollwork alone opened up a world of possibilities!

(And I can't wait to learn to make a pretty ruffle cake. I've been thinking about Amanda's ruffle cake since December!)

Guess what?  Melissa is offering TWO Bake at 350 readers year-long memberships!  Yay!  Come learn along with me!

giveaway closed! Congrats to Rachel & Chelsea!!!

Let's make some pretty cakes together! Works for me!

May 31, 2005-2011

2005: We celebrated our 7 years anniversary in our old apartment.

2006: We celebrated our 8 years anniversary in our garden and Sølve proposed. He had built this bench a few days earlier and carved a heart on it. I sat on this bench, in beautiful evening sunlight, when he popped the question. You already know my answer ;-)

2007: We celebrated our 9 years anniversary at home with cheese and rosé.

2008: We celebrated our 10 years anniversary at home with Champagne, snacks, roses and diamonds (to wear for our wedding day August 9 the same year).

2009: Caption written on Flickr: How to celebrate 11 years of love. Shopping at the garden center, spend the whole day working in the garden in the bright, warm sun, champagne and dinner al fresco with candles. Bliss!

2010: We celebrated our 12 years anniversary with tulips from the garden and dinner with my sister (who stayed with us for a month doing research for her master thesis).

2011: We celebrated our 13 years anniversary with dinner out followed by sunset and dessert at home.

Papertake Weekly - Sketch Week

Hi everyone! I hope you were lucky enough to enjoy a 3 day weekend and that you had nice weather for the unofficial start of summer. It was actually snowing here on Saturday night, believe it or not! YUCK! We've had a very cool spring this year and I'm ready for some warmer weather! I just know that summer is going to hit hard when it finally gets here.  With it being Tuesday, that means it's time for a new challenge from Papertake Weekly! This week is sketch week! I love sketch week! Dawny is the sketch Queen!!  Since it's the last Tuesday in the month, that means we're being sponsored by the awesome Simon Says Stamp!!

For my card today, I used #377 Traveling Tilda (isn't she just the cutest little thing???) from the Bon Voyage collection at Magnolia-licious, along with #525 Spring Fence. I don't see the full size available right now, but you can get it in the mini version!! I changed it from a spring fence to a summer fence by just covering up the daffodils with some tiny flowers. They are colored with Copic markers, and Tilda is fussy cut and popped up for dimension. These yummy papers are from Raspberry Road and they're double matted with Bazzill card stock.   The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts and  I also added some Kaiser flat backed pearls. That lucious bow is made with May Arts Silk Ribbon from Stamp and Create.

So that's it for my card today! Sure hope you pop over to Papertake Weekly and check out all the amazing creations from the rest of the design team! Then we'd love it if you'd grab your paper and glue and join us in the challenge! Thanks so much for stopping by to see me today and hope to see you back again soon! Hugs!!

Black & Spiro Today

I quickly snapped this photo as I was leaving the shop tonight of our front desk.  Today we replaced the black and white ikat desk skirt, which we've had on the desk since our re-opening last year, with a new gathered navy and white ticking skirt.  This photo gives a very small indication of our new look for the entire shop which will hopefully be in place within the next 3 weeks.  There is going to be lots of red {I am very into red}, navy, pale blue, green, yellow and a softer/warmer pink than the one I am normally known for.

I wish that all of our lovely new things would arrive sooner as the shop is a little bit empty due to our recent annual sale.  However, as I keep telling myself - beautiful things take time to come to fruition and as my mother always says - good things come to those who wait!!

work

Here is some recent work I have done for my part time employer, the ad agency ASKO Reklame.

For AMFI Voss shopping center I...

...interviewed the manager about their new "manifest"...

...I took this portrait to illustrate the purpose of the manifest...

...and I interviewed and photographed the owners of the new Thai food grocery store.

For AMFI Stord shopping center I...

...sourced photos for this inspiration spread about springy outdoor life and I wrote the small text.

For Blomsterdalen senter I...

...asked four random people what they like best about summer...

...I borrowed products from each of the nine shops at the shopping center and made this summer inspiration spread together with photographer Gustaf Bratt...

...and finally I wrote about barbecuing.
