Honda ranks in Top 10 by Fortune Magazine

A special report by Fortune magazine has included Honda in a list of ten companies that are "ahead of the learning curve on the strategic value of environmentalism in their industries." Honda was the only automotive manufacturer on the list.

To select companies on the "Green Giants" list, Fortune solicited nominations from environmentalists and consultants who have worked in corporate America. The final ten were pared down from a list of nearly 100 major corporations, which Fortune specified because their environmental footprint is more important than that of smaller companies.

Honda also received a B+ in the Globe and Mail's Report on Business Magazine in February, the highest grade for any auto manufacture, in recognition of its hybrid technology and fuel-efficient cars, sustainable manufacturing facilities, aggressive programs to reduce energy consumption at its manufacturing sites and elimination of hazardous substances from its production.

In Quebec's financial Commerce magazine, Honda scored seventh in the magazine's 10th annual "Les 150 Entreprises les plus admirées des Québécois" (most admired companies in Quebec) survey, the only auto manufacturer to attain a position in the top ten

Honda Civic News

The 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid wins Britain's Enviromental Transport Association Greenest Car Award again for its second year beating out Toyota Prius and other hybrids/diesels.

The Car Buyers' Guide highlights winners and losers in a range of categories, rated in terms of power (engine capacity), CO2 emissions, fuel consumption, noise and finally safety (impact on pedestrians).

In other Civic news around the globe...

The conventional Civic wins South African Car of the Year. It beat out 7 other new car finalists.

Acura Service Bulletins

Acura has agreed to a warranty extension over transmission troubles. In T.S.B. 02-027 issued on Jan. 5, the company notes that 1999-2002 Acura 3.2TLs, 2001-2 3.2CLs, some 2003 Acura TLs with the Type S trim package and some 2003 3.2CL models appear to have higher than normal defects in workmanship or materials. The warranty has been extended to 93 months, or 109,000 miles, from 72 months, or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Some 2005 Acura RL drivers may find it is hard to see where they have traveled. In T.S.B. 07-001 issued on Jan. 13, Acura notes some outside mirrors with the automatic tilt-down feature may not return to the driving position when the vehicle is shifted out of reverse. Reprogramming the control software should clear things up. Honda said all repairs covered in T.S.B.’s might be eligible for good-will assistance if the warranty has expired.

About the Honda S2000 and the S2000 CR

Honda is very tight-lipped about the S2000 Club Racer till' it hits the New York Auto Show next month, but it has revealed that the special S2000 will feature new aerodynamic bodywork and lightweight panels for the trunk, doors and bonnet.

However, the S2000 Club Racer, possibly will only be for US customers but Honda has said that there are no plans to import the vehicle to Europe, Australia and Japan.

Honda has also said that the current S2000 will stay for an extra 18 months.

Honda switches production of the CR-V

To meet consumer demand of the new CR-V, Honda will be moving production into Mexico. Honda will begin to assemble the CR-V this fall at its Guadalajara, Mexico plant. Half of the cars assembled will travel to Mexico while the other half will be exported to the United States and Latin America.

This is all surprising since many people have doubted that sales of the new CR-V will grow much but it sales in the US jumped 42% in the first two months.

More Honda Recalls!

Today, Honda added an extra of about 400000 vehicles to its already cramped recall board. This time, it involves vehicles in Japan with the Accord, Civic, Odyssey, Life vehicles unique to Japan.

Now, more than 1 000 000 recalls worldwide.

Not impressed at all.

Honda scores at the ICOTY!

The Honda Civic 2007 Sedan wins the 2007 Indian Car of the Year trophy with the new Honda CR-V placing in second place.
The Civic and CR-V was pitched against the Hyundai Verna (Accent), Chevrolet Aveo, Toyota Camry, Mitsubishi Lancer and etc.

Canadian Budget Today

Today in Canada, the federal budget was announced. The details surrounding the involvement cars is that of every purchase of a fuel-efficent car, there will be a rebate of up to $2000 but only in Canada and the only Honda that qualifies, the Honda Civic Hybrid.

Also, if you buy a gas-guzzling vehicle in Canada, there will be a tax of up to $4000 that will fund the rebate of fuel-efficent cars.

Honda to build 2009 Civic at new Indiana plant

Honda will be increasing production of the Civic in 2009 at its new $550 million Indiana plant. It has already increased production at the Alliston plant in Canada but will start producing the Civic in Indiana also in the fall of 2008.

This might mean that in the future, you might finally be able to put your hands on one Civic.

Honda Recall

Honda is recalling about 165 000 vehicles in the US because of engine problems from a sealer material that may leak onto wires and cause them to snap. The recall includes all 2005 Acura RL, TL, TSX, entire Accord lineup including the Accord Hybrid and Accord Coupe, Honda Odyssey and the 2006 Honda Ridgeline. So far, the recall is affecting vehicles worldwide including the largest recall in Chinese history.

Total vehicles worldwide affected: More than 700 000 vehicles.

Not impressing.

United States Honda Dealer Installed Option Packages

This is the Honda Ridgeline Sport and Lifestyle Package.

The Sport Package adds your choice of running boards or side steps, front brush guard lower trim and front fender flares. The Lifestyle Package adds a towing package, a roof rack and a bed extender. Both of these packages, I'm told is available on all the models e.g. RT, RTS, RTL but these packages are dealer-installed only in the United States.

This is the Honda Odyssey EX Sport Package, EX Lifestyle Package and the LX Convenience Package.

The EX Sport Package adds: roof rail crossbars, fog light kit and an interior auto day/night mirror. The EX Lifestyle Package adds: a PlusOne console, auto day/night mirror and a cargo board. The LX Convenience Package adds: a security system, leather wrapped steering wheel cover and roof racks. The first two former packages are available for the EX trim only and the latter is available for the LX trim only and is dealer-installed only in the United States.

This is the Honda Pilot EX Sport Package.

It adds running boards, a front grille and roof-rail crossbars and is only available to the EX trim and only available as a dealer-installed accessory package only in the United States.

Sorry about the low quality, low size of the pics.

Honda @ New York International Auto Show

At the show, Honda will show the Honda Hybrid Sports Car Concept which was posted a few posts down from this post. Honda will also show a racer-inspired S2000 and will be called the S2000 CR. The Honda S2000 CR Concept which will preview at the New York International Auto Show was designed with Honda performance enthusiasts in mind. All we know is that it will be "aggresively tuned" and it will go on sale this fall. What is more puzzling about this is that Honda was supposed to phase out the S2000 this year and some are saying that the S2000 CR will be the successor. Although, in the large majority, it is not true but how long it stays in the market will be something that would relate to whether or not it will become the successor.

UPDATE S2000 CR: The S2000 will soldier on into 2008 and the CR Club Racer will be available as a new trim level.

Photos of the NYIAS will be coming soon after the show opens!

March Photo of the Month

With the Vamos, Crossroad, ZEST, Mobilio SUVs/CUVs/Vans in the Honda Japanese lineup, the old That's would seem quite odd. With the Crossroad and ZEST it seems that Honda doesn't need the That's to compete with Japanese small boxes, small SUVs and such but keep in mind the That's was designed to compete with the old xB.

Review of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Starting today, there will be a new weekly segment where I'll find reviews of Hondas and Acuras and post there here!

Today, a short review of the Honda CR-V: http://suburbanjournals.stltoday.com/articles/2007/03/03/business/sj2tn20070302-0304all_crv1.ii1.txt

Insider EXCLUSIVE!

I've just received word about the new engines for the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe/Sedan. The 4-cylinder model makes 180 hp, there is a special engine that makes 200 hp for an exclusive model and the V6 makes about 280 hp with available Variable Cylinder Management that shuts down half of the 6 cylinders to save fuel.

Sorry, that's all I can tell...

February Honda and Acura Sales

Canada:
Honda vehicle and light-truck division sales were down about 3% in February compared to February 2006 but the new CR-V continued to show sales momentum with an increase of 76%.
Acura vehicle and light-truck division sales were up about 2% in February compared to February 2006 due to its new MDX and RDX light-truck vehicles.
Combined Honda and Acura vehicle division sales were down about 2% in February compared to February 2006.

US:
Honda vehicle division sales were up 5.3% due to strong sales of the Accord and Civic Hybrid in February compared to February 2006 and Honda light-truck division sales were up 2.8% due to the new CR-V. Acura vehicle division sales were down 25.8% but light-truck division sales were up 47.7% due to the new MDX and RDX light-trucks. However, combined American Honda vehicle division sales were up 3.2% and light-truck division sales were up a record 7% compared to February 2006. Last month has been the best February ever record in Honda's history!

Consumer Reports Annual Auto Rankings

Honda, Subaru and Toyota all did very well this year on CR's annual auto rankings. Toyota took the most with 4 but Honda still did very well with taking 3 this year.

The Honda Accord was the best family sedan, the Honda Civic was the best compact and the Honda Fit was the best budget car.

Surprisingly, the Honda Odyssey didn't win as the best minivan/van, the new 2007 Toyota Sienna with a new engine from the Camry took that honor.
